Teaming up with TWBT Architects, the Prospect Park Alliance landscape architecture office acted as Owners Rep, Landscape Designer, Landscape Installer & Future Maintenance provider. This was an amazing experience and award winning design featuring an extensive and intensive green roof, entry planting, circulation hardscape throughout and featured native plants.
chaim baier music island
I have always loved grading and drainage, and this project was a dream. I drew the grading plan and was able to supervise the construction crew that created Music Island, the focal point of Prospect Park’s Concert Grove. We moved tons of earth, placed hundreds of boulders and moved truck loads of pea gravel behind a coffer dam in Prospect Park’s Lake. As the water came back in, Music Island emerged: a wonderful day.
olmsted ornamental rail
As part of the reconstruction of Prospect Park’s Concert Grove, we reconstructed the historic cast iron ornamental rail. We used historic photos to reimagine the details that were taken to a model maker who created a mold that was used to cast the posts in iron like the originals. During construction we found one piece of the original rail and made slight modification to update the design to match the original perfectly.
zucker natural exploration area
The Sandy storm took many mature trees down in Prospect Park and soon afterwards, the Prospect Park Alliance got a request from Donald and Barbara Zucker to build a play space on the north end of the park. We had an excellent contractor: Curtis from Barnhart Restoration, and designed and built the Zucker Natural Exploration Area with only the down trees, sand and a lot of imagination.
vanderbilt playground
One of the most rewarding experiences as a landscape architect is to design a public place and see it actively used. This is a constant experience when working at Prospect Park. Vanderbilt Playground received 200 visitors the first weekend it was open. We chose an autumn color pallet based on the beautiful fall color in the park and designed custom bronze water features for all ages.
bronze water features at vanderbilt playground
Prospect Park has a wonderful tradition of installing bronze water features in its playgrounds. As part of our Vanderbilt Playground design, I was fortunate to design several and worked with an artist to shape the final forms and witness casting.
