Residential Meadow - Guilford, CT

A new purchase with an over abundance of lawn, in this project we removed more than half of the existing lawn and planted a meadow in the front yard to increase biodiversity and planted a young forest in the back to screen neighbors. Project included: Tturf removal, custom seed mixes and tree and shrub planting implemented over several years to create seasonal interest all year.

Early summer pollinator meadow

Pollinator Garden - Guilford, CT

Replaced invasive plant area with a pollinator garden, providing seasonal interest and ecological richness along the property line. Designed native plant woodland and full-sun gardens between an existing stone wall & open lawn. After installation, we matched the client with long-term maintenance gardeners

Nature Play & Home - Guilford, CT

Combining a home forest school business and a play area for elementary school children, we designed four different areas: native plant front yard, constructed play, natural play and screening with forest regeneration. Local materials, native and edible plants and many trees ground this project on a beautiful rolling site.

Master Planning - Horse Farm - Durham, CT

Envisioning with client: future wedding venue, fence locations, distant meadows, native hedge rows, traditional perennial boarder at structures, specimen tree locations. Design foundation planting around the main house and discuss planting techniques for hillsides and swales.


Rock outcropping with color

Front Entry Garden & Rock Outcropping - Guilford, CT

Insert natives with seasonal color into existing landscapes including: rock outcropping, east-facing home facade, full-shade woodland edge. Provided planting designs for each location with the goal of increasing biodiversity and color in the landscape.

Transition From Organic Farm to Meadow - Old Lyme, CT

Sometimes clients are reenvisioning their landscape and need help fitting the new idea into the existing context. This client had leased his land to an organic farmer for decades and was ready to transform space into a productive meadow with walking paths throughout. We discussed strategies for meadow installation and Rubus provided a circulation plan to tie in the existing gardens and natural destinations together.
